A cleaner monthly close, without hiring a controller

Beankeeper's outsourced controller services give founders and finance leaders a real owner for the recurring finance work, so AP, AR, payroll, and the monthly close stay on track without another full-time hire. It starts at $1,500 a month and includes everything in Bookkeeping.

When you've outgrown basic books but a full-time controller is more than you need, this is the level of support that fills the gap. You get one team coordinating the work that used to land on your desk, and reporting you can count on.

What your controller actually does each month

Controller gives your recurring finance work a clear owner, so you spend less time chasing bills, collections, payroll, and reports.

  • AP and AR, owned end to end. We manage accounts payable and receivable, so vendor bills get paid on time and unpaid customer invoices get followed up. Cash flow stops depending on you remembering who's waiting or who still owes you.
  • Check runs and collections, on a schedule. We follow up every two weeks, so bills and receivables don't sit untouched between reports. You review what needs paying, approving, or chasing before month-end, not after.
  • Reporting that shows up on time. We deliver your monthly reports on schedule, so you're reviewing current numbers instead of waiting for someone to assemble them.
  • Payroll, run for you. We process payroll by direct deposit or check, so your team gets paid without you managing each cycle. You keep approval authority where you want it.

None of it runs on autopilot. Beankeeper is AI-enabled, never AI-replaced. We use modern tools to move the repetitive work faster and flag anything that looks off, then a finance professional who knows your business reviews the result and tells you what it means.

Everything in Bookkeeping, plus a real owner for the work

Controller is the step up from Bookkeeping, and it includes everything Bookkeeping does: transaction coding, monthly reconciliations, and month-end statements. On top of that, you get an owner for the recurring finance operations: AP, AR, payroll, reporting, and the follow-up that keeps them moving. You'll also meet with Kevin Hwang twice a month to review open items and raise questions before they turn into a month-end scramble.

Learn more about how Beankeeper works

You won't outgrow us. And when you want forward-looking planning, FP&A support is there, and when you want senior financial leadership, a fractional CFO is too. Both are their own services, ready to add whenever the timing fits.

Is Controller the right stage for you?

Controller fits founder-led businesses with more financial activity than bookkeeping alone can carry. It commonly suits companies in the $501,000 to $3 million revenue range, along with larger businesses that need finance capacity without another internal hire. Complexity matters as much as revenue.

Controller is often the right next step when:

  • Your monthly reporting keeps slipping.
  • You've quietly become the company's controller.
  • AP, AR, payroll, and reporting are scattered with no central owner.
  • Collections keep landing back on your desk.
  • A finance employee has left or is stretched too thin.

We work with founders, CEOs, VPs of finance, accounting managers, and operations leaders across many industries. And if you already have a Head of Finance or CFO, we can be the experienced hands behind them rather than another full-time hire.

Controller questions, answered

How much do outsourced controller services cost?

Beankeeper's Controller service starts at $1,500 a month. Your price depends on things like entity count, transaction volume, payroll complexity, and how much AP and AR activity the work involves. See our pricing page for current starting ranges.

Is bookkeeping included, or do I pay for it separately?

It's included. Controller covers everything Bookkeeping does, so your transaction coding, reconciliations, and month-end statements are part of the service. You don't buy them separately.

What access do you need from me?

Depending on your engagement, we may need your payroll system, AP and AR tools, relevant bank access, and existing finance files. In the first week, we review what you've shared, identify anything missing, and confirm the working process before recurring work begins.

How often will I hear from you?

You'll meet with Kevin twice a month, and the team follows up every two weeks on check runs and collections. You can also reach us any time between those points.
